The Time Is Now
I was home today, enjoying history being made from my couch. Imagining all of the wonderful experiences people all over the world were having. I heard every commentator possible speak on the profound affect this experience will have on America. So here it is 11:15 and I am wide eyed, eyes still red from all the tears I shared with my parents. I chose to sit home with my parents to share this moment with them.
My parents.
I listened to them so strongly speak about what this means to them and I could do nothing but thank God that they lived to see it come to pass before their eyes. My parents who were born in the 50s, alive and well during the 60s. Who attended segregated schools, then integrated schools, and the things they experienced simply for their skin. My father is not a crier, he is not emotional. He is on the opposite end of the spectrum actually. And even he was misty eyed. And that is something I will never forget. My parents who were so deeply moved by today that there were no more words shared for minutes after Barack Obama was inaugurated. We simply flipped from channel to channel to channel, watching and tivo’n everything we could. So we could have this moment, this time, this happening for the future.
I am 27 years old. I am apart of the demographic that helped carry Obama into the White House and I couldn’t have more pride for this generation and the future generations to come. Because we will carry this moment in our hearts for the rest of our lives. We will forever remember this day. We will tell the stories to our children and their children. It will be in history books. If you didn’t watch it, didn’t see a PART of it, didn’t want to see any of it… It was a beautiful thing. A very beautiful thing. And while I try to hold back my tears, America never ceases to amaze me. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. But I am proud to be an American. On this day. At this defining moment. Aren’t you? And it’s so much deeper for me than him being a black man. Look at all the images of the crowds and look at all the images of who supports this man. It’s not about black people supporting black people. It’s about EVERYONE supporting the RIGHT man. And forgive me for being so WOWED at America.I sat on my couch and watched the images of Bush thru the years… in only 7 yrs he aged what seemed like 40 yrs. And I sat there and began to feel so much shame. For disliking this man so much. For having so much anger towards him. In that moment, I realized he was just another man, he was human. He has feelings. He hurts, he cries, he fears. And although his decisions weren’t always the best ones, he made the decisions he felt were the best at the time. Somethings he could have done wiser, some things he could have addressed in a more timely manner, but he did what he could. And I truly hate that his legacy as a president will be tarnished because of how things fell apart in the end.
President Obama… I pray for you. I pray for your family. I pray for your advisors and trusted friends. I worry for you, that America will not be so kind all the time. You have a long road ahead of you. So much to repair, rebuild, and recreate. But you have the endurance that so many lack. You have the persistence, the drive… that so many need to be able to see. For that, we thank you. You have followers who are faithful, who will ride with you until the end, but know that you have followers who will not be faithful, who will turn on you when they feel the time is right for them. Be mindful of all that has happened before you, mindful of all that has happened to get America to this day. Continue to remember the little people, the people who needed something to believe in. Never forget where you have been, never forget where you are going, and never forget what you have burned into the hearts of Americans, what we needed to find again… HOPE.
The time is now… What do you plan to do to see America restored?

@Arrive__Arcane - dang. you read it before it was finished and thangs! i clicked protected instead of private. quit peeking!
I am proud to be an American… I’m proud of everything we have accomplished in the past, present, and future… Today was really special indeed, and I do agree with you on the stance on Bush… I’m rejoicing him leaving, but he is a man too… As I saw him leave Washington, I saw a human being. I mean..sure we’re in a war that may be pointless now, but I do remember the real reason… People attacked us on our soil, many lives were loss on the senseless day of 9/11… people have forgotten that he was the one that had to deal with that… I’ll leave the controversies to the conspiracy theorists, but he had to make the decision to fight back, otherwise we would have looked like cowards… I know I couldn’t deal with that, and I do have respect for him for having to do that. It does make you age a good 40 years.
I’m happy for our parents, our grandparents, and those that fought for us. I do think about the A&T Four (the four freshmen who started the Sit-in movement and jumpstarted the Civil Rights movement), MLK, JFK, RFK, Rosa Parks, Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, Thurgood Marshall… everybody who was a key part in us living the way we are today… History has been made, and I couldn’t be happier…
D
=D…we’ve been called to a new era responsibility!!! =D time to do our part…
i was sooo sustatic (yes sustatic) to see this historic event take place, i was in awe of the words that Obama spoke ….sheer joy and energy filled my soul…i felt initiative to do better for my life…
Just to see that these revolutions before our time come to pass through a man who came with a simple premise of change…things are almost infinitely tangible right now…we can do all things through Christ! =) im soo happy
Yeah, this is so true. My mom was born i the 50′s as well and it’s amazing to see how much things have changed and I’m glad we both got to see the first black president. I wish my grandmother would’ve been around to see it but I know she would’ve been proud too!
I feel you on the Bush thing…all presidents go through tough times and they do age faster than most. I know he made a lot of bad decisions but he did protect us even after 9/11 and he was our president so as a leader I salute him although I didn’t like his administration.
I do pray for Obama and his family as well for their safety and for Obama’s ability to lead this world to better days ahead.
I’m proud and excited to have seen history!
right now there are no more excuses of anyone holding anyone back. ya know
The rose in winter can outlast the coldest winter ever,…to take the colloquialism (SP) of Sista Soulja’s book. Other than that, I like your page layout. I can’t wait for the new in in the Spring. Even if it does take you about 10 days before you post something new again (smile).
Everyone had a hand in this moment in history. I was a voting location manager that had three precincts unde one roof. The enemy was in the camp in the form of an elderly couple who tried to turn away people who did not have all of their stuff in order,….they did not even offer them provisional ballots. I stood at the exit and successfully steered these persons in the right direction,…be it they were at the wrong precinct, or they had to vote provisional, but dayummit, EVERYBODY got served dat day. Imagine how I felt when one elderly white dude in line was telling me that a young white dude voter had on an Obama sweatshirt on, like he was expecting me to tell dat kid to go home and change his shirt. I told him to turn his shirt inside-out while in line, so he would not lose his place. I swear, THIS was one of the MANY reasons why I hated moving back to the MidWest.
Other than that, Obama’s in da House, haters will give him hell, but hopefully he will rise above all the boolshyt. Dat’s all.
We’ve been called to the awareness of God. I believe that Barack Obama being elected is merely God answering the prayers of our ancestors years before they imagined the idea to manifest.
God used Obama to tell the world HE IS ALWAYS IN CONTROL.
People can call this how it makes them feel. Well how will you feel if after following Obama the world just crashed right before our very eyes and there was nothing Obama could do to stop it.
Look past the hope because there is always hope if you believe in Divine that will order the steps of this ENTIRE WORLD WE INDULGE IN WHILE WE SHOULD BE WORSHIPPING.
Sorry for the rant but it’s just people I think are too blind to see what’s about to happen
THE WORLD HAD BLACK RULERS
THE FIRST RECORDED MULTI GENIUS IS Imhotep
Open your eyes people God has always been with His people

@ISLYMORE - Touche’,…see, you wasn’t supposed to be paying attention like dat
. Truth be told, I DID read a lot of your entries, and even your poems. But me being a trifflin knucklehead, I did not comment and failed to give you props where props was due, and for that I do apologize.
:adding ISYMORE on the list of black women I have upset this week,…seems like the list keeps growing:
@Applejacque - im not upset persay… i was just stating.
the blogs are open for you to read… well one of them has been moved to the protected list. i will add if you if you like – but i’d prefer you comment when you read. don’t most ppl? i need those comments. they make me stronger, they make me write more. i like responses. i want to know what ppl take away from what i have written. and for you to read… and not respond… doesnt piss me off. it does hurt my feelings a lil bit. apology accepted tho.
“It’s not about black people supporting black people. It’s about EVERYONE supporting the RIGHT man. And forgive me for being so WOWED at America.”
I agree with you SO MUCH about this! Tuesday was historical for many many reasons, only one of which was Obama’s race.
