    # 13 – VILLANELLE  (THE STREET)

From my window I can see the street

    Children playing, riding bikes

Cars drive by and the passengers wave at me

Neighbors gather with each other to greet

Taking time for conversations of the friendly type

From my window I can see the street

Where sons learn to ride on two wheels instead of three

And fathers watch carefully because fall he might

Cars drive by and the passengers wave at me

Mom takes a cake to the new lady she wants to meet

But I’ll just stay inside the cool house and eat a bite

From my window I can see the street

Prop my feet up on a stool and take my seat

Before a sudoku puzzle, I pause to take in the sight

Cars drive by and the passengers wave at me

The neighborhood overflows with people full of glee

What a happy little place filling the world with light

Cars drive by and the passengers wave at me

From my window I can see the street
